Haggis pakora is on my list to try, and how I do miss Hons on Robson in Vancouver.

Jayne - no way you're getting kicked off my friends list! I have a friend who loves Kebab Mahal but I haven't managed to get their yet.

ED - ooo butter chicken. Haven't had that in awhile. I'm just a fan of butter generally.

Angela - I wonder if the tourist board will develop a new "curry tour" of Scotland.

Hazel - I was quite pleased with this recipe but the best curry I made called for the spices to be lightly roasted first. Yum.

Rose - I'm lucky that my Scotsman will try anything I cook him. Although he isn't a great fan of vegetables.

Sanand - I think British food gets a bad reputation without much reason. There is often too much focus on the negative, when there are so many interesting combinations out there.

Julia - If you try it do let me know what you think! (did the tea arrive?)

Acolyte - thanks for the sweet compliment. I remembered the professor's name - it was Keith Aldritt. Ring a bell? My British telly of choice was Monty Python.

KarenLana - I tried homemade nan once and it was a disaster. Haven't tried it since. Let me know if you have an easy recipe.

Abby - ginger and chilli are two of the best warming foods when it is cold. :)PurestGreenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10860331983741242940noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-473528606413302079.post-50221560059903884002010-06-16T11:30:19.596+01:002010-06-16T11:30:19.596+01:00ooh haven't had curry for ages - could do with...ooh haven't had curry for ages - could do with some spices today - the weather is chilly and damp.xabbyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13893172065246895319noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-473528606413302079.post-52462009363742468052010-06-15T19:19:54.048+01:002010-06-15T19:19:54.048+01:00Yum! It was Old English, as I recall. Or maybe Milton. It was a while ago, alas. Were you also, like me, a child raised on PBS and amazing British telly like Are You Being Served, the Good Life and Mystery?

Your blog is quite divine. I have not been to Scotland, though I have been to London many times and have long held a little fantasy of heathered moors and windswept kilts. I love to cook, too, whic makes it a little easier to eat many different things! Curry has always been on my list of things to make, and for some reason, I have never done so. Methinks that will change this week, your photo looks delish! Thankfully, my kids and my darling husband, Sir Geek, the country boy, eat anything I cook, so it looks to be an adventure! But then I was at Uni in the Midlands and I've not been out in Glasgow, only Edinburgh.

However, I've tried a few of the recipes here and they are great.

http://route79.org/journal/

In Edinburgh, the Kebab Mahal and the Kalpna are truly excellent. And go down the ethnic shops on Leith Walk or there is a really good one at Jock's Lodge as the spices are a lot cheaper for a lot more in both volume and choice.

The one at JL has various marsala mixes for grinding yourself. Best always to grind just before adding and after optional toasting in a dry pan. Or just add whole, if I'm being lazy.

J.Jaynehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15940008235377775662noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-473528606413302079.post-4030541079975019812010-06-15T07:51:53.147+01:002010-06-15T07:51:53.147+01:00Can I add, that the photos here did not do the tas...Can I add, that the photos here did not do the taste justice.
jpAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-473528606413302079.post-87369362543174666432010-06-15T07:50:02.504+01:002010-06-15T07:50:02.504+01:00I absolutely adore curry.
